Potters prepare for big Christmas show

- Joanne Culley

The Kawartha Potters Guild’s 24th annual holiday sale will take place at 993 Talwood Dr. on Nov. 29 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., Nov. 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Dec. 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., an ideal time to shop for that special person for Christmas. Admission is free, with a free draw and refreshments.

“This will be one of the largest sales in the guild’s history with almost 30 potters participating,” says Lillian Forester, past chair. “On offer will be beautifully handmade wine goblets, teapots, yarn bowls, candle holders, mugs, cheese plates, chip sets, cellphone holders, and more. Each potter develops their own designs, with the result that no two pieces are alike.”

Forester says that last year, more than a thousand customers purchased unique gifts at the guild sale, with some coming back over the weekend for one more special gift.

“Included in the show will be one-of-a-kind decorative pieces that have been either Raku or pit-fired. These are specialty pieces, each one processed by the potter to achieve specific results,” continues Forester. “For the children, there will be a huge selection of Christmas tree ornaments. For the recent grad or your child’s teacher, you will find the perfect mug. Every kitchen will benefit from a beautiful bowl.”

Proceeds from the sale go toward helping the guild maintain their teaching facility and pottery shop throughout the year. She says that when you shop locally, the community benefits.

There will be free parking, free admission, a door prize, light refreshments and demonstrations throughout the weekend. For more information, please call 705-742-4979 or visit www.kawarthapottersguild.com
