Trent athletics teams adopt new slogan
1Excalibur aims to build on pride of university as sport teams make their marks provincially and nationally
Trent University athletics has rebranded itself with the slogan 1Excalibur.
It’s a campaign aimed at combining sport’s ability to bring people together and the pursuit of excellence to strengthen the Excalibur’s ties to the university and its students.
The energy, passion and drive for excellence by its studentathletes “have increasingly become a gravitational force drawing everyone across campus and in the community,” a press release from the university states.
The women’s lacrosse team won gold at the 2019 OUA championship, the women’s rugby team swept the 2019 OUA awards, the men’s lacrosse team reached the CUFLA final and men’s rugby had its best finish to date, losing in the OUA bronze medal game.
On the water, Trent rowers secured six medals at the 2019 OUA championship and one medal at the Canadian University Rowing Championship.
“As Trent University grows each year, so too does the strength of the Excalibur team,” stated Deborah Bright-Brundle, director of athletics at Trent.
“This campaign exists to celebrate the success of our Excalibur teams and student-athletes with a continued focus on the future of sport in the house of 1Excalibur.
“Excalibur pride is at an alltime high, and it is our time to push the green and white to new levels.”
1Excalibur is a reflection of the hunger to represent Trent boldly and loudly and achieve success together as one team supported universitywide.
“I am a firm believer that people are a product of those they surround themselves with, either raising you up to your best or dragging you down to your worst,” stated Evan Kopsala, a member of the Excalibur rowing team.
“Being surrounded by such positive, driven individuals has pushed me to win multiple OUA medals, graduate with honours and pursue a master’s degree. To me, 1Excalibur represents the commonalities we share in our pursuit of excellence — whether it be on the water, on the field, on the court or in the classroom.”
