Of­fi­cer as­saulted dur­ing ar­rest, say po­lice

Po­lice were called to a city home at about 10 p.m. Satur­day to check out an un­wanted man who al­legedly hit a per­son he knows with a pair of scis­sors and caused dam­age to the home. The man left be­fore po­lice ar­rived, but they tracked a suspect down at an­other home, where it’s al­leged the suspect as­saulted one of the ar­rest­ing of­fi­cers. Wil­liam Macken­zie Thomas, 22, of Lans­downe Street West, was charged with as­sault with a weapon, as­sault­ing a peace of­fi­cer, as­sault with in­tent to re­sist ar­rest and mis­chief un­der $5,000. He was held in cus­tody and was to ap­pear in court Mon­day.
