Officer assaulted during arrest, say police
Police were called to a city home at about 10 p.m. Saturday to check out an unwanted man who allegedly hit a person he knows with a pair of scissors and caused damage to the home. The man left before police arrived, but they tracked a suspect down at another home, where it’s alleged the suspect assaulted one of the arresting officers. William Mackenzie Thomas, 22, of Lansdowne Street West, was charged with assault with a weapon, assaulting a peace officer, assault with intent to resist arrest and mischief under $5,000. He was held in custody and was to appear in court Monday.
