Lioness Christmas craft show offers food, fun and a cuppa

Fundraiser will include a Kids’ Corner with activities and more

- Caroline McConnell

The annual Lioness Christmas Vendors Show happens Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Peterborough Lions Community Centre, 347 Burnham St. Proceeds from the sale will be used for ongoing Lioness projects.

“By supporting the Lioness, you are supporting our local community,” says Lioness Gloria Wray, one of the organizers. “Shop, shop, shop till you drop!”

The event includes lots of handmade crafts by local vendors for sale, a new-to-you table, book table, prizes and draws for gift baskets. New this year is a Kid’s Corner and fishing pond, where children can create their own greeting cards for their families and try their hand at reeling in some prizes. There is also a spot where shoppers can rest their feet, enjoy a cuppa and a light lunch.

Admission is free.

Caroling with Donkeys

Caroling with the Donkeys takes place at the Primrose Donkey Sanctuary Dec. 15, from 1 until 3 p.m. Come out and tour the barn and the sanctuary, while enjoying Christmas music and complimentary refreshments. There will also be Christmas cards, decorations and calendars available for purchase.

There is no admission charge, but donations would be gratefully accepted. Charitable receipts are available.

The sanctuary is dedicated to the rescue, protection, and rehabilitation of abused, neglected, and unwanted donkeys, mules and hinnies. It hosts an open house every Thursday and Sunday from 1 until 3 p.m. (November to April) and 1 until 4 p.m. (May to October). Volunteers are on hand to welcome you and tell you all about the animals living there.

The Donkey Sanctuary is located at 1296 Bowmanton Rd., Roseneath. For the safety of the animals at the sanctuary and your own animal(s), please leave your pets at home. For further information visit primrosedonkeysanctuary.com or find them on Facebook.

Socks and More

There is still time to participate in the Giant Tiger sock drive that runs until Saturday. All donations go to Socks Peterborough, which in turn gives them to charities and associations throughout the city for distribution to those in need.

Margaret MacDonald, co-ordinator of Socks Peterborough, says she is in urgent need of donations, as she is receiving sock requests almost daily.

All you need to do is drop into the Giant Tiger store on Lansdowne Street, select some socks, pay for them and deposit them into the donation box provided.

Also, Holy Cross High School will be running a sock donation campaign for Socks Peterborough in February. If there are any other schools or organizations that would like to do the same, contact MacDonald for further information at 705-745-6103.
