Santa Claus ready to light the Christmas tree

Santa Claus is coming to town, but plans have changed slightly. Plans are well underway for this year’s Christmas tree lighting, Friday at 7 p.m. outside Coronation Hall. You can see Santa light the tree and then youngsters are invited inside Coronation Hall for treats, compliment­s of Omemee Baptist Church.

The Santa Claus parade will be held Saturday. Entries should gather at Scott Young Public School, Walnut St., at noon to prepare for the parade’s start at 1:30 p.m. — note the time change. The parade will travel down King Street to the Legion.

Members of 1st Omemee Scouting will again collect items for the food bank along the parade route. Following the parade, children can take their Christmas lists to Santa at Coronation Hall and receive treats compliment­s of the Omemee Lions and Lioness.

Lions draw

The Omemee Lions Club is holding an LCBO giftcard draw. For only $10, you have the chance to win $600 in LCBO giftcards. Tickets are available at Coronation Hall Service Centre, from any Lions member or through an etransfer to omemeelion­sclubgener­al@gmail.com. The draw takes place Dec. 20.

The Omemee Seniors meet in the Legion Tuesdays for various activities. The first, second, third and fifth Tuesdays are euchre, beginning at 1 p.m. Cost is $2.50. A potluck is held the fourth Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. Bring your favourite dish as well as a plate and cutlery to help with cleanup. Cost is $3. Annual fee is $10.

Community Care

The Community Care of City of Kawartha Lakes offers many invaluable services to the residents of our area. The office number is 705-324-7323.

A community luncheon in conjunctio­n with Omemee Lioness will be held at Christ Church Anglican, Thursday at noon, open to any Omemee area resident. A seniors’ luncheon will be held at Bethany United Church, 3 George St., Dec. 19, noon. Register by calling ext. 654. Meals on Wheels are available at a nominal cost for residents of Omemee and Downeyvill­e. Frozen meals are also available. Call the office for further details.

The Adult Day Program is held Mondays and Thursdays, 8:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Trinity United Church. This program allows caregivers some needed break time as well as allows the clients to interact with other people. Call the main office for details. Many support groups are available for CKL residents at no cost.

Circle of Hope, for those who recently lost a loved one, on the first and third Thursdays, noon to 1:30 p.m., 2 Kent St. W., ext. 504. Soldiers of Change, for men over 18, Thursdays, 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., 108 Angeline St. S., call ext. 186 for details or to register.

Community Care offers a Good Food Box program to improve access to affordable, fresh and healthy food. Individual­s may order a food box for $15. Boxes must be preordered and paid for by the first Tuesday of the month. Pickup is the third Tuesday of each month. Call the office for details. Community Care is looking for drivers for the Good Food Box program. If you might be interested, call Wendy at ext. 160.
