John Weir’s journals

1892. Dec. 6, Tuesday

Last night I attended a meeting of the Patrons of Industry, and the patrons by a unanimous vote elected me president of their institute.

Today, I took nine bags of potatoes to Conductor Haskill, a load of carrots to John Allen. Smiley was doing chores. Rained and hailed most of the time this afternoon.

1892 Dec. 7

I took two loads of hay to town and sold for $8.00 per ton. Splendid weather today. 1892 Dec. 8

I took a load of hay to J.C. Sullivan and a load of wheat to H.A. Mulhern’s flour mill to change for flour. Rained most of the forenoon.

1905 Dec. 4, Monday

This morning at ten o’clock I attended the funeral of the late Maud Baxter. Clear and cold all day.

1905 Dec. 5

This afternoon at three o’clock I attended the Orange funeral of the late Robert Wright. Clear and cold. The road is smooth and hard frozen. The Little Lake is frozen all over and covered with people skating.

1905 Dec. 6

I was working at the cowstable all day. Lovely day, just at freezing point and bright sunshine.

1905 Dec. 8

This forenoon I brought home a load of shavings from the planing mill for lighting fires. Very fine weather, a little frost at night and thawing a little in the daytime.

1905 Dec. 9

We were in town today. Fine weather and splendid wheeling.

1910 Dec. 2, Friday

Lovina and I went to town in the cutter and the sleighing is splendid. I got a good outfit of winter boots and socks. Fair and mild all day.
