- Caroline McConnell northcrest_column@yahoo.com

Looking to get rid of unwanted items or to purchase something for a DIY project? The Habitat for Humanity Peterborough and Kawartha Region ReStore can help with their contactless donation system and their new online store.

With the warmer weather, you may be reorganizing or spring cleaning your garage and basement and may end up with unwanted items you would like to donate. Both Peterborough locations of the Habitat ReStore will accept contactless donation drop offs of gently used items. You just have to call ahead and schedule an appointment; only scheduled items will be accepted.

Some of the items you can donate include electronics (working or not), scrap metal, appliances, furniture, lighting, plumbing, cabinets, building supplies, windows, doors, tools, books, movies, home decor, dishes, sporting equipment, clothing, shoes and accessories.

For a complete list of items that are acceptable donations, visit habitatrestorepkr.ca/donations. If you have something that you aren’t sure can be donated, just give them a call to find out.

You can also purchase previously donated items at the new online ReStore. Visit habitatrestore.kpr.ca to see what they have for sale. Items can also be viewed on the Habitat for Humanity Peterborough and Kawartha Region Facebook page, under the Shop link. There are large, clear photos of all items offered for sale along with details, price and location.

You’ll find tools for gardening and DIY projects; desks, chairs and shelves perfect for working at home offices; and bicycles for those wanting to get out for some exercise. Pay for it online, then make an appointment to pick it up contactlessly.

The site is updated daily, so check back often and if you can’t find what you are looking for, give them a call and they will check their stock.
