Hootenanny on Hunter Street cancelled
Hootenanny on Hunter Street is the latest downtown Peterborough event to be cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic state of emergency.
The Peterborough Downtown Business Improvement Area association announced that the event, which had been scheduled for Aug. 8 and would have been the 10th anniversary of the event, will return in 2021, with the aim of bringing back all of the acts that had been booked but had not been announced.
The musical street festival, in its third year of being run by the DBIA, was started by the late Jonathan Hall.
Hootenanny involves closing Hunter Street West between George and Aylmer streets to host a street festival with large licensed patios and downtown vendors. The event attracts about 10,000 people annually.
“It breaks my heart to have to cancel an amazing full day of music we had planned,” DBIA executive director Terry Guiel stated in a release.
“It’s going to be a different summer downtown without all the festivals, but our focus right now is the safety of the community. For now, we’ll keep working with our downtown businesses to help them through this crisis, including helping them engage their customers online.”
YMCA cancels summer day camps
The YMCA of Central East Ontario has cancelled its 2020 summer day camps.
The organization, which has a branch in Peterborough, announced the COVID-19-related decision Monday.
