Help steer Peterborough’s new Cycling Master Plan
The City of Peterborough is creating a Cycling Master Plan and is looking for your input.
The goal of the plan is to identify strategies to improve and grow cycling in the community. According to information from the city, “the plan will look at ways to support the use of regular bikes and e-bikes, including new multi-use trails, cycling facilities along roads, policies, programming and design standards.”
To ensure that the plan reflects what the community wants, community members are invited to complete an online survey at connectptbo.ca/cycling. Members of the public are also invited to contribute their ideas and opinions on social media using #CyclePTBO.
There will be other opportunities for community involvement in the months ahead. The collected information will be used by the city and the consultant team to identify cycling priorities. This project will also tie into the update of the city’s transportation plan, which is also starting soon.
For more information, contact Sue Sauvé, transportation demand management planner with the city at 705-7427777 ext. 1485 or ssauve@peterborough.ca.
Raising Marginalized Voices
A book exchange for Raising Marginalized Voices is taking place on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Confederation Square, across the street from city hall.
Participants are invited to bring novels, books of poetry, zines and children’s books by Black and Indigenous authors and other marginalized voices. Each participant will have an area to lay out their books and share them with others.
Organizers ask that everyone attending wear a mask, maintain a safe distance and bring hand sanitizer. This is an opportunity to listen, learn and come together as a community to better educate ourselves.
Rotary Club of Peterborough
The Rotary Club of Peterborough describes itself as an organization of “change-makers and city-builders” with the motto of “Service Above Self.” The club in Peterborough, one of the first Rotary clubs in Canada, will celebrate its centennial anniversary next year.
Members typically meet on the second and fourth Monday of each month at the Holiday Inn, however, meetings have now moved online using Zoom due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Each meeting features a guest speaker and takes place around lunchtime.
If you are interested in attending a meeting as a guest, or learning about joining the Rotary Club of Peterborough, email membership@ peterboroughrotary.ca.
Locally, Rotarians have been involved helping to establish Camp Kawartha, assisting with the construction of the Rotary Greenway Trail, and sewing and donating masks to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre. Visit portal.clubrunner.ca/219 for more information on the Rotary Club of Peterborough.
