Merrick named minor hockey volunteer of week
Laura Merrick, scheduler for the Peterborough Girls Hockey Association, is this week’s Peterborough Petes exceptional minor hockey volunteer. The Petes are recognizing local minor hockey volunteers for their contribution to the planning, organizing and execution of local minor hockey’s return to play this season. Merrick’s job of co-ordinating schedules and making sure every player in the PGHA receives fair ice time has allowed all Ice Kats to have a hockey-filled fall and winter despite COVID -19 restrictions. She is celebrated by her PGHA colleagues for her efficiency, class, dedication to planning and for having the best interests of the players in mind. “She will only hear how the times are good, the schedule is inaccurate and that it isn’t perfect. She is a volunteer that has gone over and above this season,” stated PGHA coach Michael Jacobs, in a Petes press release. Each week the Petes will recognize and celebrate one volunteer from the Peterborough Minor Hockey Council, Peterborough Hockey Association, PGHA or local adaptive hockey organizations who acknowledges that this hockey season has required additional time and effort to ensure a safe return for players to the rink. The Petes welcome players, parents and other members of the minor hockey community to nominate deserving local volunteers by filling out a form at gopetesgo.com/volunteer -of-the-week-nominations on the Petes website.
