Comments sought on city’s draft vision statement for transportation master plan
The City of Peterborough has launched an online survey on the draft vision statement for the city’s transportation master plan.
The survey, which will be open until Jan. 15, is part of the second round of community consultation for the transportation master plan.
The survey is posted online at ConnectPtbo.ca/moveptbo.
The city is seeking input on the draft vision and evaluation criteria that will form the foundation of the transportation master plan, which will guide the long-range future of citywide transportation, according to a news release from the city.
The goal of the vision statement is to reflect the community’s view of its transportation system in 20 years, the release states.
“Peterborough moves safely, sustainably and reliably,” the draft vision statement reads. “The transportation network for the City of Peterborough is safe, affordable, and reliable to support the health and well-being of our growing community. Our focus is to be efficient, innovative and responsive while embracing a more sustainable future to achieve our climate change objectives.”
Through the Connect Peterborough website, the city began the first round of public engagement in September and Octo
ber.
The plan is now at what the city calls the transportation vision and performance criteria stage.
From January to March, the project aims to look at current and future transportation problems and opportunities. Then from March to June, it will look at what the city calls “transportation strategy development and mode share targets.” From June to September, “infrastructure improvement needs and key decision points” will be selected.
The final transportation master plan will then be developed starting in September and will go before city council by December for approvals.
Participants can register online at Connect Peterborough
to receive updates on the project and future opportunities to take part in the process.
“Please consider getting involved. Sign up to be on the distribution list for the project at Connect Peterborough and receive notifications about public engagement opportunities,” stated Coun. Kemi Akapo, co-chair of the city’s transportation portfolio.
The city has not stipulated how people without internet access can take part.
During each of the five phases of the project there will be opportunities for the project team to share information on the status of work completed to-date, the release from the city states, and for residents to provide feedback to assist in developing the plan.
