- Naomi Stock naomi.stock@gmail.com

The Peterborough Symphony Orchestra (PSO) is pleased to announce its first 2021 online concert, Saturday at 7:30 p.m. This event, titled Dancing to the Light, is a spring concert for the entire family and can be viewed from the comfort of home.

The concert will feature a variety of pieces from Bach, Schumann, Joplin and even Radiohead. It features the PSO’s five professional string principal players: concertmaster Phoebe Tsang and Sona Kaltagian on violin, Elizabeth Morris on viola, Zuzanna Chomicka-Newnham on cello and Filip Stasiak on bass.

Michael Newnham is the PSO conductor.

Tickets are available at flex pricing, from $15, and can be purchased at tickets.showplace.org or at 705742-7469. Flex pricing allows those purchasing tickets to choose a price based on their situation and to consider whether they can pay a little more to support the PSO.

The PSO was founded in 1967 and has been a cultural cornerstone of the Peterborough community for more than 50 years. It has approximately 40 regular players, comprised of a core of volunteer musicians and the five professional principal string players. The PSO has a reputation as one of the finest community-based orchestras in Canada.

Hutchison House staff have prepared instructional videos and material kits for three of their popular day camp programs — kaleidoscopes, marionettes, and crazy quilt squares.

Kits can be purchased and picked up from the museum at a cost of $15 each or two for $25. For more information call 705743-9710

This Saturday’s craft is Earth Day Seed Bombs; it is appropriate for children ages four and older.

Children and families are invited to visit the library and guess the number of books in a box.

The box can be viewed from the front window of the library, 345 Aylmer St. Guesses can be submitted by scanning the QR code on the window, or online at ptbolibrary.ca. Entries must be received by Saturday, and a prize will be awarded to the closest guess.
