Peterborough Lions thank Fairhaven staff for pandemic efforts

- Caroline McConnell Northcrest_column@yahoo.ca

The Peterborough Lions Club has made another delivery to Fairhaven and the staff would like to thank them for their generous support.

“They donate Central Smith ice-cream cups, chocolate bars, coffee and cookies to the staff, to thank them for all the hard work keeping our residents safe during the pandemic,” said Jen Baro, Fairhaven’s executive assistant.

In return, Fairhaven has jumped on board for the Lions Club shoe collection initiative, says Baro, collecting shoes for this worthy cause.

During the month of July, the Lions Club is collecting used shoes, everything from baby to adult shoes, casual, dress, runners, sandals, or winter boots. Once collected the shoes will be delivered to BioPed Footcare and Orthotics where they will be cleaned and refurbished. Then, working with local organizations and Soles4Souls Canada, the shoes will be donated both locally and abroad to those who need them.

“Locally their goal is to collect 1,000 pairs of shoes,” said Baro. “So far they have over 650 pairs of shoes donated.”

If you have shoes you would like to donate, you can drop them off until July 30 at either the Peterborough Lions Club, located at 347 Burnham St., or BioPed, at 655 The Queensway.
