Peterborough companies make major donation to Camp Kawartha
Camp Kawartha recently received very generous support through donations for its new Rotary Health Centre from two local businesses, Peterborough Appliances and Harwood Kitchens.
“These are two local companies with big hearts,” said Jacob Rodenburg, Camp Kawartha’s executive director. “The owners and their staff were quick to come forward with help when we asked, and it is so generous of them to support us in this meaningful way.”
Harwood Kitchens donated all the cabinetry for the centre. Everything from tongue depressors and towels to personal protective equipment and extra bedding will have a home and give the space a professional look.
“When we were asked if we would be able to help Camp Kawartha with their cabinetry needs for the new health centre, we were more than happy to help. The timing was perfect as we had some cabinets in our inventory that were just what was needed,” said Michelle Meddings, designer at Harwood Kitchens. “We are very grateful to have been given the opportunity to work with Camp Kawartha and give back to the community.”
Peterborough Appliances donated a refrigerator and a washer and dryer set. The refrigerator will not only provide cool water and ice cubes, but will also hold necessary camper or student medications. The washer and dryer will ensure that there is on-site cleaning of sheets, towels, and camper clothing.
“We were excited for the opportunity to give back to Camp Kawartha,” said Tiffany Alton-Froggatt, sales manager at Peterborough Appliances. “All three of my daughters loved their time at the camp, and that break from technology and all the stresses of the real world is priceless. Peterborough Appliances is proud to support Camp Kawartha as they lead the way with this eco-friendly, sustainable new building designed with the well-being of all future campers in mind.”
Camp Kawartha is grateful to both businesses who will be recognized with other supporters at a formal ceremony in September.
“The health-care ream are so excited about what Harwood Kitchens and Peterborough Appliances have done to make the health centre function efficiently and effectively,” said Cathy Romano, Camp Kawartha’s health-care co-ordinator. “The appliances and cupboards are essential items and I thank both companies for their generous spirit.”

Super glue Needed
The Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre (OTCC) is looking for donations of super glue as their supply is running lower than they anticipated. Please note that the only kind of super glue they are able to use is LePage Ultra Gel Control.
And what does the CTCC use super glue for? They use it to help the medical tape stick to their water-dwelling patients, to stabilize shell fractures presurgery, and to repair cracks in turtle eggs.
There are several ways to make a super glue donation. You can drop it off at the OTCC, located at 1434 Chemong Rd. Ring the doorbell and someone will come out to assist you. You can also order it from the OTCC Amazon wish list and have it delivered right to the centre. The wish list is available at www.amazon.ca/hz/wishlist/ ls/35S3HOHPT891N.
The OTCC also accepts etransfers to info@ontarioturtle.ca.
For more information and to learn of other ways you can donate to help the OTCC, visit ontarioturtle.ca/donation-options.
