Downtown Peterborough going downhill fast

-

The Peterborough downtown just keeps going downhill with no end in sight. My wife owns a downtown business and what she and her employees and customers endure on a daily basis should not be happening to courteous law-abiding citizens.

The street people are ruining this city. The other day, one of the street people walked into my wife’s business not wearing any shoes and proceeded to go through the trash containers and saying she is going to make a pair of shoes, while picking up scissors and knives and pens and yelling out how she was an activist for people like herself.

My wife and her employees felt very threatened and called the police. The police dispatcher just told my wife that if the situation gets worse then to call them back.

So what does it take for the police to respond? A knife or pair of scissors into the back of my wife or an employee or even a customer for the police to respond? This street person was threatening all the people in the store and this was a serious matter that was just blown off. The police are supposed to serve and protect, but this was not happening on this particular day.

The person finally left after taking a bunch of items from the store and scattering them along the street outside.

Every day, staff encounters street people sleeping in the parking lot and making a mess of the area and mouthing off to the employees.

The police need to be cracking down and rounding up these people and keeping them away from the law-abiding society or there will be no stores in the downtown for people to shop and enjoy.

The street people have no regard for keeping the city clean and safe and our politicians should be looking how large cities of the world manage to keep this problem under control because what they are doing now is surely not working.
