Hutchison House is in need of youth volunteers
Youth ages 13 to 17, who enjoy history and visiting museums, are invited to attend Hutchison House Museum’s Young Curator Camp, taking place Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Attendees will experience what it is like working at a living museum, design their own mini exhibits, get a behind-the-scenes tour of the museum and learn how to handle artifacts.
The cost is $20 per youth and advance registration is required. Please email info@hutchisonhouse.ca or call 705-743-9710 to register or for more information.
Hutchison House Museum is also looking for junior volunteers. These volunteers play an important role at the museum and act as servers, in period custom, for the Scottish Teas throughout the summer. Many junior volunteers go on to serve as guides for public tours of the museum, earning credits for their high school volunteer service requirements.
For more information, visit phshutchisonhouse.ca, and download the application. Completed forms can be returned to Hutchison House Museum.

Doors Open
After two years of hosting visitors online, Doors Open Peterborough is pleased to be welcoming visitors into buildings once again. The free event, which takes place Saturday, is a celebration of architectural heritage and gives the community a rare chance to see inside buildings not normally open to the public.
The theme of this year’s event is “design and adaptive reuse” and features five buildings open to the public, including two in the Town Ward, and three walking tours.
Peterborough Collegiate, located at 201 McDonnel St., will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors can follow in the footsteps of famous alumni Serena Ryder, Jim Balsillie and Lester B. Pearson, stepping through the arched doorway and on terrazzo floors of this school, originally built in 1908. Masks are encouraged.
The Y Lofts, formerly the Peterborough YMCA, located at 475 George St., will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Masks are required. This will be the first, and possibly last, chance to see the only heritage suite and the stunning view from the rooftop terrace of this modern new apartment complex.
“PKAR is sponsoring Doors Open because we value the opportunity for our community to discover hidden architectural gems, be inspired by our heritage and to see behind some doors rarely open to the public," said Kate Kidd, president of Peterborough and Kawarthas Association of Realtors.
Themes for the walking tours include the 1916 Quaker Oats fire and explosion, repurposing the buildings on Hunter Street East, and the civic buildings surrounding Confederation Square. For more information, please visit doorsopenontario.on.ca/peterborough.
