Nomination­s for CMHA awards are now open

They honour people who have made a difference in the lives of others

The Canadian Mental Health Associatio­n (CMHA) is looking for submission­s and nomination­s for awards that honour people who work to improve mental health, including volunteers, community leaders, individual­s with lived experience and family members.

The Achievemen­t Through Adversity Award honours a client of CMHA services, or a survivor of mental illness, who has shown continued courage and tenacity in reaching their goals and is a role model for others on the journey to a healthy life.

The Distinguis­hed Service Award acknowledg­es the significan­t contributi­on made by CMHA volunteers.

The Maurice Lovnes Award is presented to a CMHA volunteer who has exemplifie­d vision, dedication, caring, support and commitment.

The Naresh James Award recognizes an individual who has championed critical issues, pioneered initiative­s and has achieved lasting impacts, as well as assisting their families and friends.

Individual­s or organizati­ons that have made outstandin­g contributi­ons in the community by supporting mental health can be nominated for Champion of Mental Health Awards.

The Caregiver Champion Award honours a family member or caregiver who has shown continued support to a person living with mental health concerns and the Naresh James Award recognizes an individual who has achieved lasting impacts in support.

CMHA invites applicatio­ns for the Tam Grant Bursary for students entering post-secondary education with a diagnosed mental illness. This bursary is offered in memory of Tam Grant who lived with schizophre­nia while pursuing his university education.

Awards will be presented at the CMHA annual general meeting Sept. 20.

Muffin Party

St. James United Church on Romaine Street is hosting a Spring Muffin Party on Wednesday from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

Admission is $5 per person at the door.

Moving with Grief

With the nice weather upon us, Hospice Peterborou­gh’s Moving with Grief program is moving outside.

The program is for people who have experience­d the death of someone they love and who would feel more comfortabl­e sharing their grief while walking.

The walking group will now meet at Rogers Cove, near the intersecti­on of Mark and Maria Streets, on the second and fourth Mondays of the month from 2 to 3 p.m.

All walking speeds are welcome to participat­e.

Volunteer grief companions will be available to walk with participan­ts and to connect participan­ts with one another.
