Tickets for the Rivalry Night between the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs alumni teams at the Peterborough Memorial Centre will go on sale Friday, with proceeds going to Greater Peterborough Health Services Foundation.

The benefit hockey game will take place Nov. 17, organizers announced this week.

“It’s the first time that we’ve had the alumni associations from both the Canadiens and the Leafs playing each other. So, it’s obviously going to be a good night of competition, as we welcome back some of the most famous names from both organizations and put on a good hockey game for ticket holders,” said Jeremy Giles, facility manager for the Memorial Centre.

“There’s a charitable aspect to it as well, because the event is in partnership with the Greater Peterborough Health Services Foundation.”

GPHSF has always had a great relationship with the Memorial Centre, explained Vince Bierworth, executive director for the GPHSF. The organization provides vital funding for local initiatives that make health care more accessible, he added.

“In the past, we’ve actually done two alumni games; back in 2017 with the Montreal Canadiens, and with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2018,” he said.

The last time GPHSF partnered with the Memorial Centre was Feb. 14, 2020, just prior to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. “It was (comedian) Jim Breuer’s Valentine’s comedy show, which was essentially three weeks before everything started shutting down,” he said.

Bierworth noted funds raised from Rivalry Night will go toward supporting various projects that go along with GPHSF’s mandate. He said he hopes the game is a sellout, with Peterborough fans of both teams having a great time.

“Proceeds from the event will fund a number of different initiatives within the community,” he said. “So, we’re encouraging fans to come out wearing their team’s gear, have a good time, and enjoy some good-natured ribbing.”

A full roster for each team will be announced closer to the event.

Starting Friday, tickets can be purchased online at memorialcentre.ca or in person at the box office or by phone at 705-743-3561. Tickets start at $25 each for adults and $20 for children.

There are also a limited number of $75 VIP upgrade tickets available which include a pre-game reception and meet and greet with either the Montreal Canadiens or Toronto Maple Leafs team.

“It’s been a very exciting year for hockey in Peterborough. This is just one more really exciting event that we can welcome into the fold,” Giles said. “We encourage fans of both organizations to get their tickets and come to cheer on their team.”
