Omemee legion elects new leadership

During the recent elections at the Royal Canadian Legion, a new executive was voted in for 2023.

Donna Robinson is the new president taking over the reins from Bill McQuade, Wendy Watson, first vice, Karen Drew, second vice and Ross Edgerton, third vice. Kelly Kellar will serve as secretary. Ray McGill will be sergeant at arms once again.

The executive members are Leona Collins, Tim Dinning, Kelly Hicks, Brenda McGrath, Bonnie Toms and Linda Wilson.

At the May seniors’ luncheon, the new fryer and grill were used much to the delight of all present. The appliances were purchased thanks to an Ontario Trillium Grant, the fourth successful applicatio­n to update the building and facilities.

MPP Laurie Scott was present and commended the legion members for their efforts to update the facilities and continue their excellent work for the Omemee area.

Omemee Seniors

The Omemee Seniors group is open to area residents aged 50 and over. They meet the fourth Tuesday of each month from September to June. Anyone is welcome to attend. There is a meal prepared by the Swans, followed by an activity. Annual dues are $15 per year and the meals are paid for the day of the gathering.

Pickleball

Pickleball is a low impact exercise that has gained popularity over the past few years. You can try this sport at the Omemee Curling Centre on James Street, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 9 a.m. until noon; Thursdays 6-9 p.m. and Sundays, 12:30-3:30 p.m. It is round robin play, $5 per day. All skill levels are welcome. Paddles are available if you don’t have your own.

Court rentals are also available. Spectators are also welcome to come and see what the hype is about this new sport.

Lions

Fowlers Corners and District Lions Club’s Cruise Nights at the Barn have returned to Craftworks at the Barn, 124 Lindsay Rd., Selwyn until Sept. 14, 4 p.m. to dusk. The nights feature live music, a 50/50 draw, food and prizes.

Omemee Lioness Lions will hold a summer raffle for a YETI Tundra 45 cooler and 2-20 tumblers. Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5. For informatio­n, call Lioness Pat at 705-879-2306 or grammapat1­0th@bell.net

The Omemee Lions have Ducktona 2023 tickets available through local members, businesses or by etransfer to omemeelion­sDucktona2­023@gmail.com.

The virtual race will take place at Omemee Beach park, July 1 at 5 p.m.

First prize, $1,000; second, $350, third, a wine basket valued at $250 and dead last duck, $100.
