OPP make 3 impaired arrests in one day

Peterborou­gh County OPP made three separate impaired arrests within a four-hour period on Saturday.

At approximat­ely 5:15 p.m., the Peterborou­gh County OPP responded to a report of a single motor vehicle in the ditch on Highway 28 in North Kawartha Township. Officers arrived at the scene and were told by the driver that they attempted to pull over, but had gone too far, landing them in the ditch. While officers spoke with the driver, an odour of alcohol was allegedly detected as well as signs of impairment.

A 59-year-old Alliston man was charged with operation while impaired — alcohol; operation while impaired — blood alcohol concentrat­ion (80 plus) and driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available.

The accused had his driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborou­gh on April 2.

Just shortly after 8 p.m., Peterborou­gh County OPP officers were conducting RIDE on Youngs Point Road in Selwyn Township. A vehicle entered the RIDE and upon speaking with officers, an odour of alcohol was allegedly detected. Police say the driver admitted to consuming alcohol earlier in the day. A blood alcohol test was made and after providing a sample of their breath, a fail was allegedly registered resulting in the driver being arrested.

A 60-year-old Trent Lakes man was charged with operation while impaired — blood alcohol concentrat­ion (80 plus).

The accused had his driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborou­gh on April 2.

An hour later, Peterborou­gh County OPP officers conducted a stop of a vehicle on Television Road in Peterborou­gh. During the stop, officers determined the driver to be allegedly impaired. A search of the vehicle was conducted as a result of the arrest and various controlled substances were allegedly located. The vehicle passenger was also arrested as a result of the search.

A 33-year-old Frankford man was charged with operation while impaired — alcohol and drugs; fail to comply with release order — other than to attend court; possession of a Schedule I Substance — cocaine; possession of a Schedule II Substance — other drugs; drive vehicle with cannabis readily available and drive motor vehicle, no currently validated permit.

The accused had his driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.

In addition, a 29-year-old Havelock woman was charged with possession of a Schedule II Substance — other drugs and possession of a Schedule II Substance — other drugs. Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborou­gh on March 19.
