Curling centre is getting a new roof

The Omemee Curling Centre is celebratin­g its 60th anniversar­y in 2024. At the celebratio­ns for Curling Day in Canada on Saturday, MPP Laurie Scott and MP Jamie Schmale were in attendance to present an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant of more than $137,000 to replace the roof on the aging building.

The curling centre is a busy location during the curling season with a variety of leagues for all levels of curling.

It is also the site of the regional high school curling championsh­ips.

During the off-season, pickleball comes to the centre with more than 260 pickleball­ers competing each day.

Royal Canadian Legion

World Day of Prayer will be held at St. James Anglican Church, north of Fowler’s Corners, Friday at 1 p.m.

Royal Canadian Legion Branch 497 will host a number of bands for dances.

■ The Mudmen, May 18

■ All shows begin at 7 p.m. excepts The Mudmen, who will hit the stage at 8 p.m.

Tickets for all events are available at the legion.

In addition, Mark Edwards will present a gospel concert at the legion this Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Doors open at 1 p.m. There will also be a 50/50 draw, door prize and food available for purchase. Tickets are $5 per person at the door.

World Day of Prayer

World Day of Prayer will be held at St. James Anglican Church, north of Fowler’s Corners, Friday at 1 p.m. The service was written by the Christian Palestinia­n women. There will be a light lunch and fellowship time following the service.

Free skates

PD Realty Inc. is sponsoring free skates at the Emily- Omemee Community Centre, March 11, from 4-5 p.m., and March 13 and 14, from 4:30-5:30 p.m.

Midwives of Lindsay and the Lakes

The Midwives of Lindsay and the Lakes will hold two cervical screening (PAP) clinics at 41 Russell St. W., Lindsay for women who do not have a doctor or nurse practition­er.

It is recommende­d that women have a PAP test every three years. Clinic will be held March 12. Appointmen­ts can be made by calling 705-324-4664.

St. Patrick’s Day concert

A St. Patrick’s Day concert will be held at Downeyvill­e Hall, March 15 and 16.

A bake table and bingo will be held March 22 and Apr. 19 beginning at 7 p.m.

The City of Kawartha Lakes Accessibil­ity Awareness Committee is seeking nomination­s for the 2024 Accessibil­ity Awards.
