Police investigating third suspicious fire
Latest blaze breaks out at a former rooming house
Three suspicious fires in four days are being investigated by the Peterborough Police Service and the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal.
The latest blaze broke out Tuesday around 8 p.m. at a former rooming house on Water Street. Officials say multiple crews attacked the fire from all four sides, as well as from an aerial truck.
Police say a drone was used to assist firefighters in identifying hot spots.
The area around the fire was closed to traffic for about threeand-a-half hours. No injuries were reported.
Earlier Tuesday morning, fire crews put out a fire at a residence on Hunter Street. Police were called to the scene around 5 a.m., and reported minimal damage and no injuries.
“At this time, there is no reason to believe there is a connection,” Peterborough police said in an email statement to The Examiner.
Meanwhile, police are looking for an alleged arson suspect seen fleeing the scene of a Lansdowne Street West business after a fire early Saturday morning.
Police say the suspect was seen leaving the Brealey Plaza in a dark sedan.
Around 5 a.m., firefighters responded to reports of a fire inside a vape shop in the plaza. They arrived to smoke coming out of the structure. Crews were able to put out the flames, but not before roughly $200,000 in damages were caused to the building.
Police say investigators learned that the front window of the business had been allegedly smashed and a fire set.
