AXE-travaganza returning in support of Children’s Foundation
Event raises funds to send kids to summer camp
Tickets for the fifth annual Send a Kid to Camp AXE-travaganza fundraising event in support of the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation are now on sale.
The foundation’s primary purpose, since its inception in 1983, has been sending kids to camp. Over the past 40 years, the organization has sent more than 5,490 kids to summer camp, said Carrie Truman, executive director.
“All of the money raised will go toward sending kids involved with the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Aid Society to camp this summer,” she said. “So, we’re hoping to raise enough money to be able to help 200 children go to camp.”
The fundraising event, which takes place May 3 at the Peterborough Axe Club on Perry Street, will include axe throwing, snacks, a silent auction and photo booth, said Truman.
Children who benefit from the fundraiser get to choose what type of camp they attend, noted Truman.
“If a child has a passion for the arts or sports, or they just want to go to kind of a traditional overnight camp, we will support them to do kind of whatever they’re passionate about so that they can have that camp experience that they want,” she said.
Summer camp can offer children a number of opportunities and experiences, including meeting new friends, explained Truman.
“I think lots of us have experienced the joy that you can get from summer camp, and this is really to help kids who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity to go to camp,” she said.
There are two time slots of axe throwing available on May 3; from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and 8-10 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased online at khcas.on.ca/foundation/axe, starting at $50 per person.
