Public meeting planned to discuss Omemee Beach park splash pad
Omemee and area residents have an opportunity to dip into a potential splash pad for the community’s beach park.
A public information session to share information on the feasibility of a future project takes place on Tuesday at the Emily-Omemee Community Centre.
The session, which runs from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., follows up on a December update by community services director Craig Shanks regarding council’s decision to earmark $100,000 in the 2023 budget for a servicing study and design plan. This was completed last fall.
One of the key issues reported was the lack of sufficient treated water to safely supply the splash pad. Alternatives such as a user activation system could significantly reduce draw, but a water processor would still be required.
The overall construction cost, anticipated usage, water source connection, pre-treatment requirements, operational costs and staffing requirements will be presented during the session. This is expected to cost between $750,000 and $1,250,000.
Following the public information session, staff will prepare a report for council seeking direction on next steps.
If the proposal is supported, staff will include it in the 2025 capital budget for development and installation, with capital construction costs supported by community fundraising. Operations funding requirements would be included in future budgets.
