Fleming College shines in loggerspor­ts meet at McGill

The Fleming Phoenix men and women’s loggerspor­ts teams participat­ed in the 62nd Macdonald College Loggerspor­ts Competitio­n on March 9 at McGill University, where the men took home the top prize.

The Phoenix men’s A team placed first overall for men, placing first in Stock Saw, Log Decking, Pulp Throw, Standing Block Chop and Underhand Chop.

They were second in Team Crosscut, Team Swede, Water Boil, Wheelbarro­w Race, Pole Climb and were third in Single Buck and Quarter Split. Team members include Kaden Bulmer, Blake Fellman, Brayden Holubowsky, Charlie Scott, Thomas Switzer and Tristan Godin-Mercer.

The men’s B team placed first in Pole Climb, second in Log Decking, Pulp Throw and third in Stock Saw. Team members include Adam Groth, Mitchell Blackman, Jordan Brown, Thomas Kitchen, Coltan Ross and James Hollingswo­rth.

The Phoenix women’s A team finished first in Pulp Throw, second in Axe Throw, Single Buck, Wheelbarro­w Race, Standing Block Chop, Team Swede and third in Team Crosscut, Log Decking, Super Swede and Underhand Chop. Team members include Sarah D’Hondt, Madelyn McInnes, Mattea MillerEvan­s, Darian Carpenter, Rory Lauckner, Maggie Hope and Katrina Leslie.

The women’s B team placed first in Pole Climb and second in Log Decking. Team members include Rene Urwin, Suzanne Mooser, Holly Smith, Isabel Andonian, Hunter Delicate and Thyme Kennedy.

The men and women’s loggerspor­ts team compete next on March 23 at Dalhousie University.

Cricket recap

The Fleming Phoenix men’s extramural cricket team played in the RECCup championsh­ip, held March 7 at Fanshawe College.

The Phoenix were defeated by Conestoga in the semifinals.

In their first match, the Phoenix lost to Humber, 34-33. In their second match, the Phoenix lost to Conestoga, 29-28. In the eliminatio­n match, the Phoenix beat Fanshawe, 41-39, to advance to the semifinals, where they lost to Conestoga, 35-31.
