Chiefs coach Arcand gets award prior to Game 2 of semis

The Lakefield Battaglia Homes Chiefs have yet to figure out Clarington Eagles goalie Oliver Webster.

The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in their PJHL Orr Division semifinal with a second straight shutout victory, defeating the Chiefs, 4-0, at the Lakefield-Smith Community Centre on Saturday night.

Game 3 in the best-of-seven series is 7:55 p.m. Monday in Bowmanvill­e with Game 4 back in Lakefield on Tuesday at 7:25 p.m.

Prior to Saturday’s game, Orr Division convener Chris Clarke presented Chiefs head coach Jamie Arcand with the Orr Division Coaching Staff of the Year Award.

Arcand orchestrat­ed a mid-season turnaround that saw the Chiefs win nine of their last 11 games to finish 20-18-3-1, moving up to fourth place in the regular-season standings.

Arcand also earned his 200th career coaching victory during his 10th season behind the bench. His staff includes assistant coaches Jason Hinze, Ethan McDougall, Terry Walton, general manager Nick O’Brien and assistant general manager Seamus McDougall.

Chiefs captain Clayton Shaughness­y was recognized as the Orr Division Player of the Month for February, as well. In nine games he recorded 10 goals and 20 points with three game-winning markers to power his team to a 7-2 record.

Goalie Easton Rye stopped 28 of 32 shots for the Chiefs but Webster stopped all 25 Chiefs shots he faced.

Mitchell Davies, Leyton Aitken, Cole Williamson and Trevor Urquhart scored for Clarington. Adding assists were Kayden Hambly, Trent Gaylor, Kyle Shepherd and Kyle Smith.
