Residents get say on Bonnerworth upgrades
Pickleball courts, pump bike tracks to be added as well as upgrades to skate park
Several community members attended a recent public drop-in session to review plans for the redevelopment of Bonnerworth Park in Peterborough.
Last Thursday, consultants and city staff were on hand at the McDonnel Street Community Centre to speak with residents, answer questions and receive input about enhancing the park space and adding recreation features.
Bonnerworth Park, located at 560 McDonnel St., will become a new recreation hub.
According to a news release, Bonnerworth Park was identified as a priority project in the city’s Parks and Outdoor Recreation Facilities Study, which identified key objectives to improve and expand opportunities to support recreation across the city.
Pickleball, skateboarding and pump bike tracks were identified as priorities, to meet the demands of the community. “The Bonnerworth Park redevelopment will include 16 new pickleball courts, a bike pump track, an expanded skate park and associated landscape and lighting, the release says.
Work on the improvements to Bonnerworth Park is expected to start in the fall. Planning is underway for Bonnerworth and Knights of Columbus Park simultaneously, with both parks becoming new active outdoor recreational hubs.
Bonnerworth Park will enhance the city’s pickleball, skateboarding, and bike facilities and Knights of Columbus Park will enhance its tennis facilities with future upgrades including washrooms, a pet exercise area, upgrades to the Legacy Bowl and a shade structure, reads the news release.

“Public consultation is a key component to the city’s park planning process, with community and user group feedback sought on the details of each park,” according to the news release.
Bonnerworth Park Redevelopment Survey
Everyone is invited to complete the online survey, which can be found at connectptbo.ca/bonnerworth-park.
The survey provides participants the opportunity to identify features they would like to see in the park and to make suggestions to create an inclusive environment.
Paper copies of the redevelopment survey are also available in the lobby at Peterborough City Hall, which is located at 500 George St. N.
The survey will be open until 11:55 p.m. on Friday.
Once the survey has closed, an update summarizing its findings will be posted at connectptbo.ca/bonnerworthpark.
