Youngtown Museum founder’s photo exhibit captures love of music

‘Photographs and Memories of Rock and Roll Legends’ show features roughly 180 images

The museum is closed, the exhibit gone and a number of the artifacts in other collectors’ hands, but Trevor Hosier’s passion for music has never wavered.

This enthusiasm for all things musical led Hosier to open The Youngtown Museum in Omemee in 2007. The museum was named in honour of Neil Young, who had lived in the community for much of his childhood.

Hosier closed the museum in 2014 and moved part of the collection to the Kawartha Lakes Museum and Archives in Lindsay, where it was displayed from 2015 to 2017.

However, the Kawartha Lakes resident never closed the books on the excitement of sharing his passion with others. To this end, he has developed the “Photographs and Memories of Rock and Roll Legends” exhibit.

Taking place Saturday, April 13, the event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in The Lindsay Lounge, located at 68 McLaughlin Rd. in Lindsay.

“While the museum closed in 2017 and much of the collection sold off and auctioned off … we (still) had a lot of photographs and, as such, we thought many of you would enjoy coming to revisit the Youngtown Museum,” explained Hosier.

The exhibit features roughly 180 photographs. These include the many artists who came to visit the museum, as well as those “we had the privilege of meeting or photographing,” said Hosier.

Artists include Burton Cummings, Randy Bachman, Ronnie Hawkins, Ian Tyson, David Clayton-Thomas, Arlo Guthrie, Davy Jones, Brian Wilson, David Cassidy, Tommy James, Kim Mitchell, Tom Jones and of course, Neil Young. Many of the images have never been exhibited and cover a time period of between 2006 and 2019.

While the exhibit speaks to Hosier’s passion for music, the admission underscores his five decadelong career as a mental-health counsellor. Hosier encourages patrons to “pay-what-you-can” – be it $5, $10, or $20 – in order to support local mental-health initiatives that are desperately needed.
