ABBAMANIA is coming to Thomas A. Stewart
ABBAMANIA, a rock musical tribute to ABBA, takes place Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Thomas A. Stewart Secondary School auditorium, 1009 Armour Rd. The doors open at 7 p.m.
The show is in support of Diabetes Canada, with proceeds going to support its mission to help lead the fight against the disease by helping people who have it live healthy lives while a cure is sought.
“This rock musical will take you back to the disco era. Witness these incredible musicians and singers. Not only do the four performers look exactly like Anni-Frid, Bjorn, Benny and Agnetha, they also sound unbelievably like them. Recently back from a Malaysian tour, they perform throughout Canada, the U.S. and internationally. Experience 21 of ABBA’s hits, with all the costume changes, choreography, a live band and big studio sound!” according to a news release for the benefit.
Approximately 11.5 million Canadians live with diabetes or prediabetes and another diabetic is diagnosed every three minutes.
T¨his is an all-ages show. The cost ranges from $46.81 to $49.84 plus fees. To purchase tickets, visit BenefitShow.net (search for ABBAMANIA) or call 1-888-777-9793.

The Big Flip contest
In honour of Earth Day, Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region and Chemong Home Hardware Building Centre present The Big Flip, a furniture-flipping contest, that takes place during the month of April.
The event aims to promote sustainability by reimagining and reviving used furniture with the intent of keeping these items out of landfills.
To participate in the contest, you just need to find a piece of used furniture (a great place to pick one up is the Habitat ReStore) and creatively redo the piece.
The furniture can be transformed by refinishing, painting and/or reupholstering.
You will also need to take and submit a before photo, one of you working on the piece and one of you with the finished masterpiece.
There are two categories, with a winner in each: the People’s Choice and the Designer’s Choice. The winner of the People’s Choice category will be decided by online votes received May 1-8.
The Designer’s Choice category winner will be determined by professional interior designers from Birchview Design.
The winners will each receive a $500 Chemong Home Hardware Building Centre gift card, a Fusion Mineral Paint prize pack and a Peterborough Tool Library annual membership.
Habitat for Humanity Peterborough & Kawartha Region is a notfor-profit organization that builds affordable homes in the Peterborough and Kawartha Region.
The ReStores sell donated new and used appliances, furniture, kitchens, building materials and home supplies.
There are three locations: 300 Milroy Dr., 550 Braidwood Ave. and 55 Angeline St. N., in Lindsay.
The deadline to enter the contest and upload your photos is April 30.
There is no charge to enter. For complete details and to enter the contest, visit thebigflip.ca.
