The Kawartha Potters Guild spring sale is coming up on Friday, April 19, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., April 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and April 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with free admission and free parking at 993 Talwood Dr.

“If you are looking for that special gift for Mother’s Day, an upcoming wedding, a graduation gift, a gift for your child’s teacher or Father’s Day, our spring sale is the place to go,” says past chair Lillian Forester.

“A variety of bowls, mugs, trays, vases and garden decor will be available.”

The sale features 20 potters, some of whom, such as Charlotte VanGenechten, will be showcasing their work for the first time.

Each piece is created by the potter, either on the wheel or by using hand-building techniques.

“Potters decorate their pieces in a variety of methods and then decide on a glaze of a specific colour that best enhances their design,” Forester said.

“Each piece is totally unique.” Registration for the clay and crafts summer camp is now open for children aged seven to 12 for this creative weeklong camp.

Camp starts July 8 and runs for seven weeks until Aug. 19, with one week set aside for teens, from Aug. 6 to 9.

This camp is ideal for the creative child who will have an opportunity to learn pottery techniques. It fills up fast, so check out the week that best suits your needs.

The next regular session of classes begins April 22 for six weeks.

Classes are available for people of all skill levels, from beginner and intermediate to advanced, whether on the wheel or hand building. Flex classes are also being offered throughout the summer on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. They are available to the public as well as members.

“Thank you to everyone who attended the YWCA Empty Bowls event,” says Forester. “The Kawartha Potters Guild donated over 200 bowls, along with bowl donations from the Kawartha Woodturner Guild. Together, we raised over $20,000 for the YWCA nourish program.”

The guild is located at 993 Talwood Dr. For information, visit kawarthapottersguild.com or call 705-742-4979.
