Peterborough pugilist Ayotte loses bout in split decision
It wasn’t the main event fans expected to see, but it was a thriller.
Scrapyard Boxing Club’s Max Ayotte lost a split-decision to Jonah Sands in what was selected as “Bout of the Night” during Vengeance Returns 2 at The Venue on Saturday night.
More than 400 spectators turned out for the 12-bout amateur card sanctioned by Boxing Ontario.
Scrapyard’s Kyrie Perentesis was originally scheduled to box in the main event against a Belleville fighter but Scrapyard owner and show promoter Jessica Swain said his opponent pulled out of the match on Wednesday night.
“I tried hard to replace him but no luck,” said Swain.
It catapulted Ayotte, in just his third bout, to the main event and he put up a good battle in losing a close decision to Sands at 79.3 kilograms.
Scrapyard had one other boxer on the card. Dylan White won a splitdecision over Golden Tiger Boxing Club’s Logan Sayers in another close bout at 74.8 kilograms.
“Dylan was thrilled with his performance, as were his coaches,” said Swain.
Four other area boxers participated on the card.
Nathan Peterson, of Corcoran’s Boxing Gym, lost his amateur debut to Jamestown Boxing’s Trayvon Deabreu by decision at 68 kilograms. Corcoran’s Tyler Matthys participated in a fun box contest for youngsters where no winner is decided.
Chayton Valleau, from Lindsay’s The Boxing Factory, won a unanimous decision over Scarberian Boxing Club’s Mostafa Chris Karemlou at 68 kilograms.
TBF’s Jason Leith was stopped in the first round by Red Owl Boxing’s Beckett Lee-Shanok at 51.3 kilograms.
