Man jailed 3 years for having a loaded gun
Mother of Louis Yourkin’s children has charges dropped
The gun was found in a hidden compartment held with a fridge magnet within an end table
Louis Yourkin has been sentenced to three years in a federal prison following his guilty plea in the Superior Court of Justice on Tuesday.
The 33-year-old Peterborough man pleaded guilty to possession of a loaded restricted firearm in front of Justice Robert Charney.
Charney sentenced the repeat offender to three years minus time served in pre-sentence custody. Yourkin has two years plus a day to serve for possessing the gun, which was located in his home by Peterborough police during a search on Sept. 29, 2021.
The search warrant was executed by police in connection to a shooting at a Rubidge Street residence in downtown Peterborough on Sept. 11, 2021.
Following the shooting, Peterborough police’s Emergency Response Team (ERT), along with the Durham Regional Police tactical unit raided a residence in Bailieboro on Ireland Drive.
Yourkin wasn’t arrested during the searches and a warrant was put out for his arrest. Yourkin eluded authorities until Aug. 11 of last year.
On Tuesday, he admitted the gun belonged to him after detectives were able to lift his fingerprint off a snack package that was located near the firearm. The gun was found in a hidden compartment held with a fridge magnet within the end table in the living room of the residence, court heard.
The mother of Yourkin’s children, Katrina Condon, was originally charged with possession of the loaded firearm, but that was withdrawn.
The Crown also withdrew multiple firearm charges against Yourkin.
