Bobcaygeon welcomes new Italian eatery with patio

-

What started as a locally sourced charcuterie grazing box home delivery service during the pandemic has evolved into a brick-and-mortar Bobcaygeon business.

Located at 49 King St. E., Muster Point is the culinary creation of Kyle Wolsky and Danielle Malcolm.

The restaurant offers fresh and delicious Italian food, from a variety of handmade focaccia sandwiches and gourmet coffee options to their classic grazing boxes and take-home fresh pasta kits. The couple, who began their journey in December 2020, dreamed the business they launched in the thick of COVID-19 could grow into a storefront location.

“Both Kyle and I have spent years in the hospitality industry across Canada, honing our craft so that one day we could open our own business, pouring our creativity and love into food we really believe in,” said Malcolm in a news release.

“To be living that dream just four years after starting our business is amazing, and we are so grateful to the community for the unprecedented support they have shown us, growing Muster Point into something we are immensely proud of.”

The duo spent their first weekend open (April 12-14) welcoming hundreds of customers, new and returning, even selling out of all products early Saturday.

“The Kawartha Lakes community has welcomed us with open arms since we first opened. To see that support continue with this new evolution of Muster Point is really heart warming,” said Wolsky, who hails from Australia but has been a Canadian resident for more than 10 years, in a news release.

The couple, who married in 2022, were deeply inspired during a four-week tour of Italy last year.

They visited a variety of cities and regions including Genoa, Naples, the Amalfi Coast and Tuscany, enrolling in culinary classes specialized to each area, including fresh bread and pasta making.

“It’s so important to us that we make high-quality, delicious food, rooted in the traditions of each region,” said Wolsky.

“It’s one thing to do your research and read about the things you’re making, but to learn from chefs to grandmas in Italy really took our knowledge to another level.”

While their new location offers a new retail food option to the community, Muster Point continues to also offer catering for events, featuring their vintage inspired food trailer, The Old Fashioned — a favourite at farmer’s markets across the Kawartha Lakes last summer — for rental for food and/or bar and coffee service.
