Backyard Summer Social returns June 22
Gala billed as Five Counties Children’s Centre’s signature fundraising event of the year
Mark your calendars and make sure you purchase your ticket.
Five Counties Children’s Centre has announced its Backyard Summer Social is returning for the third year on Saturday, June 22, from 1 to 4 p.m. Taking place in the backyard space of Five Counties at 872 Dutton Rd., it is billed as the centre’s signature fundraising event of the year.
“Our Backyard Summer Social is an adults-only gala event that lets you swap out the tux, gown and heels for T-shirt, shorts and sandals, all the while supporting a great cause,” says Lyn Giles, director of fund development at Five Counties, in a news release.
“The Backyard Summer Social promises to be an entertaining, high-end experience with equally high-end impact.”
And, if you purchase your ticket before Victoria Day (May 20), you will be entered into a draw for a Fujifilm Instax Mini 12 camera. The winner will be drawn and notified the week of May 21.
What can you expect at the event? The day will include delicious food from La Mesita, Gangers of Cheese and Hanoi House, sweet treats from Central Smith and the Kawartha Butter Tart Factory, craft beer and local wines, musical performances by Nicholas Campbell and the Boogie Time Ramblers, a live auction and door prizes, and fun activities like axe throwing, a petting zoo, inflatable jousting, oldfashioned picnic games and more.
“The added benefit is that, by joining us to celebrate the start of summer, it lets you be a kid again, at least for the afternoon, with the proceeds of your ticket going directly to support treatment for our kids and their families,” states Giles.
The previous two Backyard Summer Socials raised more than $40,000 each, with that money going to Five Counties’ Building Abilities For Life Campaign, which funds priority, highdemand services like speech and occupational therapy in an effort to reduce wait times for kids to receive these critical services.
Lead sponsors for the event are seven local Canadian Tire stores, two in Peterborough and others in Lindsay, Cobourg, Campbellford, Fenelon Falls and Minden.
“The Backyard Summer Social is a fun way to welcome the start of summer, while supporting the incredibly important work being done by Five Counties,” said Ralph Moulton, owner of Canadian Tire’s Peterborough South location, in a news release.
“Canadian Tire is pleased to be able to assist a great community event and organization like Five Counties, which does such great work in our own backyard,” he said.
Tickets cost $125 each andare available online by visiting fivecounties.on.ca/mt-event/bss/ , by emailing development@fivecounties.on.caor calling 1-888779-9916, ext. 300. Each ticket includes a $75 charitable tax receipt, as well as all food from a variety of local vendors, one drink ticket, live music, access to all activities and games and a chance to win great prizes.
Huge garage sale
Quaker Park Tennis Club is holding a huge garage sale on Saturday from 8 to 11 a.m. The event includes a plant sale, bake sale, craft sale, garage sale, book sale and prizes. Funds raised will benefit the club, which is at 425 Driscoll Terrace (behind Kawartha Credit Union, down the hill off of Driscoll Terrace, by the river).
