Province invests in events in Lindsay, Millbrook and Fenelon Falls
‘It’s an investment in our community’s spirit, unity, and growth,’ says MPP Laurie Scott
The Ontario government is investing $165,000 through the Experience Ontario 2024 program to support three festivals and events in Haliburton—Kawartha Lakes— Brock.
The funding is a part of the $19.5-million investment that is being made in communities across the province to encourage Ontarians to explore all that these communities have to offer — staying longer in local accommodations, eating in restaurants and supporting small businesses.
“Events and festivals play a crucial role in promoting tourism, showcasing local talent and businesses, and creating memories that can span generations,” stated Haliburton—Kawartha Lakes—Brock MPP Laurie Scott in a press release.
“This investment is more than just financial; it’s an investment in our community’s spirit, unity, and growth.”
The following local festivals and events are receiving funding support:
■ $55,000 for The Grove Theatre in Fenelon Falls for its 2024 summer season
■ $55,000 for this year’s Lindsay Exhibition
■ $55,000 for 4th Line Theatre near Millbrook for its 2024 summer season
“Festivals and events enrich the lives of Ontarians and strengthen local economies,” added Tourism, Culture and Sport Minister Neil Lumsden.
“I am proud that our government is supporting festival and event organizers through the Experience Ontario 2024 program, helping them to create unique local experiences that will attract visitors, create jobs and promote economic development.”
Originally established in 2007 as Celebrate Ontario, the program has invested more than $284 million in roughly 3,600 Ontario festivals and events.
Festivals and events are also supported through the Ontario Cultural Attractions Fund (OCAF), which provides eligible organizations with funding for marketing and promotional costs.
Tourism makes significant contributions to Ontario’s economy, supporting approximately 360,000 jobs and generating more than $35 billion of economic activity.
