Five Counties Children’s Centre was the beneficiary of two different fundraisers held earlier this month in Northumberland County: the Tim Hortons Smile Cookie Campaign, and McDonald’s McHappy Day.

“The grand total from both events is $73,213, which will support highdemand kids’ treatment services at Five Counties,” said Bill Eekhof, communications co-ordinator, Five Counties Children’s Centre.

Five Counties was chosen to benefit from the annual Smile Cookie Campaign held from April 29 to May 2 at six Tim Hortons locations in Cobourg and Colborne. From this campaign, the centre received $50,713.

“We are very appreciative of Tims and its staff who welcomed and assisted our Smile Cookie volunteers. The generosity of Tim Hortons and its ongoing community support for many different organizations is amazing,” said Scott Pepin, CEO of Five Counties. “We also want to say a huge thank you to our staff, volunteers and community partners who came out to assist at the Smile Cookie campaign. Their time and talents contributed so much to our success, and we couldn’t have done it without them.”

Every year, McDonald’s restaurants across Canada support local kids’ charities by collecting donations and dedicating a portion of sales on McHappy Day. Five Counties was the local charity of choice for the McHappy Day held on May 8 at McDonalds in Cobourg and Port Hope, owned by Lisa Wilson.

This event generated $30,000, the best local result ever! Five Counties will receive three-quarters of this amount, or $22,500, which will go to support their Building Abilities for Life Campaign. This campaign helps to cover high-demand services like speech and occupational therapies at Five Counties, ensuring more kids can get the care they need when they need it.

The remaining portion will go to Ronald McDonald House Charities, which provide out-of-town families with a place to stay while their child is being treated at a nearby hospital.

“McHappyDay was an amazing success, and we want to thank the incredible generosity of everyone who came out to support our kids,” said Pepin. “We had wonderful support from our staff, volunteers, kids, families, partners, and supporters on McHappy Day. We also want to thank Lisa and her entire team at McDonald’s for selecting Five Counties to be the local charity to benefit from McHappy Day. The McDonald’s team members were gracious and enthusiastic hosts for the event.”

Five Counties is grateful to everyone who assisted during McHappy Day, including Five Counties families, staff, board members and volunteers, and representatives from Port Hope Police Service, Cobourg Police Service, Port Hope Fire Department, Cobourg Fire Department, Trinity College School and Bewdley Lions Club, as well as area high school students and local residents.
