Obama spending U.S. into bankruptcy

-

Bruce Strachan’s analysis of the U.S. election (Citizen, Nov. 8) is somewhat flawed.

He suggested that “Politically the U.S. election shows us there’s only one place to be and that’s the middle.”

Obama could hardly be described as the middle, his administration is the most left wing in U.S. history.

Strachan also seems to have forgotten that just two years ago when the Tea Party was setting the agenda for the Republicans they made the biggest mid-term gains in history. (The Tea Party is in the middle?)

In the intervening years the Tea Party has been marginalized by the Republican National Committee and the media.

With that faction no longer much of an influence, the Republicans moved toward the middle – and lost.

Strachan also suggested that the outcome was “the result of under- standing the serious issues facing the nation, putting a campaign together that focused on these problems.”

Actually that’s what Romney did, and he lost.

The Obama outlook seemed more like lollipops and sunshine and “don’t worry, be happy, we are the party of entitlements and irresponsibility, vote for us.”

Contrary to accusations of racism and right wing fanaticism, the main thrust of the Tea Party is “Stop spending, stop spending, stop spending!”

The U.S. is rapidly spending itself into oblivion.

Obama’s Treasury Secretary Tim Geitner admitted last year that the U.S. could not survive more than 15 years, and that they have no plans to do anything about it.

Romney/Ryan had a plan to cut spending and borrowing and restore the U.S. to fiscal solvency.

Would it have worked?

We’ll never know, but one thing we do know is the U.S. can’t keep borrowing a trillion-plus dollars per year the way Obama plans to. Their government is insolvent. Total government per-capita debt is higher than Greece’s.

Sooner or later (most likely sooner) reality will reassert itself, the U.S. will be unable to borrow and the whole house of cards will come crashing down.

Will it happen on Obama’s watch? It very well could.

Maggie Thatcher said socialism only works until you run out of other people’s money. She was wrong. When you run out of other people’s money, you can still spend until you run out of other people’s credit.

Well, we’ve just about reached that point. Europe is going down, the U.S. will soon follow and so will Canada.
