The Prince George Citizen

Missing out on Cats coverage

-

What the heck is going on at The Citizen?

Are you deliberately trying to hide the good news about our Cougars or is it simply a matter of not caring?

On Dec. 2, I was a little disappointed that our win against the Portland Winterhawks (a team I can’t remember beating last year) had sports front page coverage but a section so small you could almost miss it.

On Dec. 3, I figured for sure there would be major front page coverage as they beat them again and continued their home game winning streak (eight out of nine games), but no, the sports front page goes to cover the Spruce Kings and their slump and the story of the Cougars is hidden four pages later in the section.

Had they lost, I’m sure we would have seen a huge splash telling all of Prince George how their streak had ended.

For those of us who are watching our home team grow and finally becoming a contender in the WHL, it is disheartening to see this type of coverage, especially at a time when attendance needs to be boosted and Prince George needs to know just how well their team is doing.

I’m not saying the Cougars should get priority over other teams, I’m saying that The Citizen should use it’s sports front page to promote the success of all teams.

Show us that Prince George community spirit.
