Gallery fall programs beginning

School isn’t the only place where classes start fresh in the fall.

The Two Rivers Gallery is home to a menu of seminars and workshops and courses in art.

There are spaces especially for small children, teens, young adults and also adults.

As the leaves start to change colour, it’s the place to learn how to mix and muck with colours (and all sorts of materials) like never before.

“Whether you are interested in painting, stretching hide to make a drum, or learning about new technologies such as coding (for girls ages 9 – 13), 3D printing or cutting and etching with a laser, we have a class to fit your interests,” said Anna-Maria Lawrie, director of Public Programs at the downtown arts facility.

In addition to a slate of classes for kids through adults, there are also ongoing creative programs like MakerLab, Family Workshops, Sunday Open Studio and other long-term opportunities to engage in art of all sorts.

Lawrie also suggested that teachers, school administrators and families take a look at the gallery’s school-centred art programs.

Some are aimed for the classroom, some invite the students into the gallery space, some are especially for home-school families and there is a regional outreach program as well.

“Exposure to art and opportunities for creative exploration are essential to our school children. We have no idea what the world will be like in twenty years but together we can prepare them to be flexible thinkers and imaginative individuals,” Lawrie said.

“Two Rivers Gallery offers a range of programs for elementary and high school students... aimed at opening each student’s eyes to wonderful art and opening minds to new ideas.”
