The Northern Capitals are two wins away from their third-straight B.C. Female Midget Triple-A Hockey League championship.

After completing a two-game sweep of the Thompson-Okanagan Lakers Saturday in Vernon, they’ll face the regular-season champion Greater Vancouver Comets in the best-of-three playoff final which starts Friday in the Lower Mainland.

Camryn Scully scored two goals to spark the Capitals to a 4-1 victory over the Lakers in Game 2 Saturday morning in Vernon. Katie Young and Sarah Jarvis also scored for the Capitals.

“I’m really excited to be in the finals,” said Scully, a 15-year-old right winger, who tucked in a loose puck for the only goal of the first period Saturday. “We know that we can beat (the Comets).” According to Scully, who joined the Capitals at the start of this season from the Prince George bantam Tier 1 team, the back-to-back wins over the Lakers were the two best games the Capitals have played all season.

“Our passing was good and we all worked together as a team and did what we needed to do to win,” said Scully. “Our coaching really helped us and just the spirit – we were always in a good mood and everyone worked together as a team.

“Olivia made some great saves in that game, (the Lakers) had a lot of shots on net.”

The Lakers tied it early in the second period but the Caps scored three more before the period ended, then relied on the goaltending of Olivia Davis to keep the Lakers from getting any closer to extending the series. Scully’s second goal capped the scoring late in the period. She took the puck out of the corner and fired a high shot into the net.

“Camryn is very tenacious and doesn’t give up and the two goals she scored (Saturday) shows how much she was digging hard,” said Capitals head coach Carl Johnston.

Scully plays on a line with Wynona Creyke and Dani Corrigan. Creyke scored two goals Friday in a 3-2 win over the Lakers.

“We have really good chemistry together and it’s just really fun to play with them,” said Scully.

Just two points separated the second-place Lakers (13-10-7) from the third-place Capitals (1413-3) but the Lakers were favoured, having won four of the six regular-season games with one tie against Capitals.

In the other semifinal series, the Comets edged the Kootenay Wild 3-2 on Saturday, after defeating Kootenay 1-0 in the series-opener Friday in Coquitlam.

The Comets went 29-1-0 as regular-season champions of the six-team league. Greater Vancouver’s only loss came Feb. 4 in Prince George, a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Capitals.
