City of Prince George snow crews have begun clearing residential streets, after completing snow removal from main thoroughfares as well as areas near hospitals and civic facilities.

Crews began clearing areas deemed “priority three” overnight Friday. Priority three areas include residential streets, park facilities, parking lots, trails and pathways. According to a media statement released by city staff Friday afternoon, city crews were focused first on areas in the Hart neighbourhood, as well as in the Bowl.

Crews also began clearing windrows from downtown streets and along main thoroughfares.

Friday’s priority regions for clearing included areas west of Kelly Road, north of Highland Drive, and near Driftwood Road in the Hart neighbourhood.

The Heritage and Pinewood neighbourhoods, as well as the neighbourhoods at the southern end of Ospika Boulevard were the main focus of clearing in the Bowl.

The city also focused on clearing routes that will be used in the Prince George Iceman competition on Sunday, as well as the Upland area. Weather conditions are expected to stay clear through the weekend, but snow is forecast for Tuesday.

The city’s media statement warned residents that, in the event of further snow, snow clearing crews will be returning to clear the highest priority areas, such as downtown thoroughfares and hospital zones, before focusing on residential areas.

City staff are urging caution from drivers and patience from residents in areas that have not yet been cleared.
