Lions bolster offensive line

VANCOUVER (CP) — The B.C. Lions bolstered their offensive line by signing free-agent linemen Joel Figueroa and Jeremy Lewis on Tuesday.

The six-foot-six, 320-pound Figueroa appeared in 15 games last season with the Edmonton Eskimos.

Figueroa, an American, has played in 44 career CFL regular-season games with Hamilton (2013-15) and Edmonton (2016-17).

The six-foot-four, 310-pound Lewis is a four-year CFL veteran who spent last season with the Montreal Alouettes.

B.C. allowed a CFL-high 49 sacks last year.

The Lions also signed line backer Mitch Barnett and defensive back Dominique Termansen for 2018 contracts.

Barnett has appeared in 29 games after being drafted in 2016, and Termansen was signed as a free agent by the Montreal Alouettes in 2016 and has 27 games under his belt.

The move brings the two players to their hometown club. Later in the evening, the Lions also signed defensive back A.J. Jefferson and Canadian offensive lineman Chris Greaves for 2018. Jefferson played in Ottawa and Toronto last season, and has 95 career tackles and six interceptions in 32 regular season games. Greaves is entering his ninth CFL season after spending last year in Montreal. The Toronto native was drafted in the sixth round by Winnipeg in 2010 (45th overall).

Cubs sign Darvish

MESA, Ariz. (AP) — When Yu Darvish met with Theo Epstein and other Chicago Cubs’ officials last December in the Dallas area, the Japanese pitcher liked what he heard.

“The Cubs really stood out, and everyone was sincere at the meeting,” Darvish said Tuesday through a translator after finalizing a $126 million, six-year contract.
