The 67th annual music festival is underway in Prince George. Young and competitive musicians are vying for positions in all disciplines of instrumental and vocal music. According to entry data, there are 44 participants in the strings category, one in orchestra, five instrumental, 109 vocal entries, 11 choirs, three choral ensembles and 202 piano entries.

The adjudicators this year were Rick Dorfer from Vancouver in strings, Catherine Robbins from Winnipeg in the voice sections, Murray Nichol from Vancouver in piano, and Greg Prosser from Prince George in the instrumental categories.

The proceedings began Feb. 19 and competition concludes today. All events take place at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church on Ospika Boulevard at Dufferin Avenue, the exception being the piano competitions held at the Evangelical Free Church on Fifth Avenue near Foothills Boulevard.

The festival will officially conclude with the customary grand finale. This comes courtesy of two great concerts at Vanier Hall on March 10.

“These concerts feature the most outstanding performances, as selected by our adjudicators during the festival,” said festival spokesperson Gina Bialuski.

The Showcase Recital at 5:30 p.m. consists of the best junior performers. Admission is free. The Gala Concert at 8 p.m. features notable performances from all levels and disciplines. Gala tickets are available at Studio 2880 and at the door.

Leading up to the two concluding concerts, The Citizen will list the results of the festival as provided by the judges and organizers as they become available.
