The region’s artistic hub group, the Community Arts Council, is holding its semi-annual general meeting this month.

The CAC is the advocacy agency that works on behalf of arts groups of all sorts. Their membership includes individual artists of all sorts, but also the guilds and societies that drive the cultural scene of the city. There are four levels of membership, from at-large individual through to arts business. The fees range from $30-$75 annually, depending on the level.

The benefits to membership also have a broad range, from grant application help to meeting and creation space to networking and advocacy.

The CAC holds a regular slate of activities like a rotation of exhibitions in their feature gallery, retail opportunities at their gift shoppe, the Spring Arts Bazaar & Chili Cookoff, Studio Fair, Art Battle, the 6x6 Art Auction, a point of sale for event tickets, all the amenities of their Studio 2880 facility, and many more.

The CAC executive board meets monthly but there are two key meetings to which all members are invited and encouraged to attend. One is the AGM each September where the board is voted upon. The other is coming on March 27 where member groups and individuals get to communicate directly with the board and with each other in a casual but businesslike fashion.

The CAC celebrates its 50th year of operation in 2018. Membership can be commenced at any time in the year.

To join the upcoming meeting, research the level of membership that best suits you and drop in to see the operation at 2880 15th Avenue.

Current members are encouraged to get on the upcoming agenda and prepare a succinct statement about you or your member group that can be delivered at the meeting. It takes place at 7 p.m. in the Jack Bryan Room at Studio 2880.

Contact executive director Sean Farrell at executive@ studio2880.com before 5 p.m. Monday to schedule a moment to speak at the meeting.
