Artists open house today

The two artists-in-residence at the Community Arts Council (CAC) creative complex are holding an open house today.

Michael Kast and Lynette LaFontaine are both unveiling the work they’ve each been working on during their tenure with the CAC. They generate distinctly different work using vastly different styles, so the night of discovery promises to be interesting under the title Two Artists – Two Mediums – One Studio – One Open House.

LaFontaine does beadwork and painting that reflects her Metis heritage.

Kast is secondarily a painter and primarily a mixed-media conceptual photographer.

Each year the CAC provides a year of free studio space plus other resources and development opportunities to a select visual artist from the local talent pool. This year, that got expanded to a pair of artists. They are midway through their residency.

The event happens from 5-7 p.m. at the Studio 2880 facility located at 2880 15th Ave. The residency studio is in the most westerly building in the compound, next to The Artists’ Workshop space and upstairs above the Prince George Symphony Orchestra offices.

Refreshments will be provided and both artists will be on hand to guide visitors around the pieces they have on display. There is no charge to attend.
