Police search for suspects after man shot at motel
Prince George RCMP remained on the lookout for suspects following an alleged shooting at a rental motel on Tuesday morning.
RCMP, who were called to the scene at the Queensway Court Motel near Queensway and 17th Avenue shortly after 8 a.m., said more than one suspect fled the scene in a vehicle before police arrived.
“At this time, the persons responsible remain at large,” RCMP said in a statement issued at 11:30 a.m.
“This incident was targeted and police do not believe the general public is at risk.”
The victim, a man, was transported to hospital. An update on his condition was not provided.
North District RCMP’s Air 4 helicopter circled the scene for much of the morning while a police service dog and handler were also called in. The Prince George RCMP’s serious crime unit is leading the investigation.
“At this time it is too soon to say what the motive might have been,” said Prince George RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass said Tuesday morning.
“This is still a very active scene.” Douglass said it was unclear if the shooting was drug related, but said the shooting appeared to have been targeted.
“Right now there doesn’t appear to be any more threats in the area. This does appear to be a targeted attack where the individual shot was actually targeted.
“We don’t believe there is a public safety concern at this time.”
The Queensway Court Motel frequently sees multiple visits per week from police.
Police are asking any residents in the neighbourhood who may have witnessed anything related to the shooting to contact the Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300 or to anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
