The Prince George Citizen

Local Muslim community ignored

-

I was listening to the radio a couple of days ago and I was disappointed by what I heard. They were talking about deer that were seen in certain parts of the city. The first sighting was by a church and the second sighting the next day was by Fifth Avenue and Tabor Boulevard.

The hosts suggested that it was close to the Evangelical Free Church but in reality it was across the street from our Muslim mosque. I can’t believe how ethnocentric the hosts were to just reference Christian places of worship.

I have visited the mosque on several occasions usually at the conclusion of Ramadan. What I suspect that most people don’t realize is the amazing individuals who attend this place of worship.

I work with many of the health care professionals who are a part of this Muslim community. They are some of the most dedicated, caring and compassionate people that I have the honour to work with. I know that more often than not we hear about radicals within this religious group causing disruption. (He who is without sin can cast the first stone.)

Some of these individuals experience racism and discrimination from patients who don’t want to be cared for by someone who looks differently than them.

It breaks my heart and I suspect that our medical community would collapse without these Muslim brothers and sisters.

Brent Goerz Prince George Hospital then flown to Vancouver for surgery where she now is recovering with family by her side.

I am not very good with words but we would love to thank this angel in person; whoever you are you will always be in our hearts for your act of kindness and professionalism.

You are forever in our hearts. P.G. again shows us all what a great city it is with people like this. Alex Nowikow Prince George
