Prince George RCMP are on the lookout for a man who fled the scene after going off the road while riding a motorcycle early Friday morning.

A woman believed to have been a passenger on the bike was found conscious at the scene and taken to hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.

The crash occurred near the intersection of Highway 97 and 22nd Avenue. RCMP were called to the scene at 5 a.m. Police said the bike was being ridden south on Highway 97 at a high rate of speed and went off the road and over an embankment between the highway and Westwood Drive.

The man fled on foot and left the woman behind. Police suspect she laid there for some time.

“The incident is believed to have happened up to a few hours before she was found and police were called,” Cpl. Craig Douglass said.

“As of yet, we don’t know when that was.”

The motorcycle, a green Kawasaki Ninja, was not registered or insured and alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. A description of the man was not available.

The stretch was reduced to single-lane alternating for much of Friday as investigators gathered evidence.

Anyone who has information on where the rider or the crash is asked to call Prince George RCMP at 205-561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800222-8477 or online at
