Ri­fle fired in apart­ment

OLIVER — Po­lice say a man has been charged af­ter shots were fired in an apart­ment, caus­ing dam­age to sev­eral neigh­bour­ing suites.

RCMP in Oliver say they were con­tacted by a ten­ant of the three-storey build­ing on Mon­day at 2 p.m. be­cause he no­ticed stuff­ing com­ing from a hole in a cush­ion that was be­side him af­ter hear­ing a loud bang.

They say the com­plainant lived on the sec­ond floor of the build­ing and he be­lieved the bang came from the apart­ment be­low him.

The Moun­ties say they searched the lower-floor apart­ment and al­legedly found spent .22-cal­i­bre cas­ings and a ri­fle, as well as mul­ti­ple holes in the ceil­ing and walls.

RCMP say there is no rea­son to be­lieve ten­ants of the build­ing were tar­geted, but they al­lege the ri­fle was fired in­dis­crim­i­nately into the ceil­ing and walls.

Po­lice say 30-year-old Daniel Khafi­zov has been charged with sev­eral firearms of­fences.
