Weapon found, youth ar­rested at lo­cal high school

A youth was taken into cus­tody af­ter a weapon was found at Kelly Road Sec­ondary School on Fri­day morn­ing.

Prince Ge­orge RCMP were called to the scene shortly be­fore 9 a.m. and a lock­down was im­posed at the school.

There were no in­juries and the lock­down was lifted about 20 min­utes later.

Specifics on the type of weapon were not pro­vided.

“In­ci­dents like this within our schools are taken very se­ri­ously by the po­lice and the quick re­sponse by our of­fi­cers en­sured this mat­ter was re­solved safely,” said Prince Ge­orge RCMP Cpl. Car­men Kiener.

School dis­trict su­per­in­ten­dent Mar­i­lyn Mar­quisForster said po­lice were called af­ter a threat was re­ported to the school’s of­fice. The school was back to reg­u­lar op­er­a­tion by about 9:15 a.m.

“Ev­ery­one is safe,” she said and added the school’s prin­ci­pal is draft­ing a com­mu­ni­ca­tion to par­ents that will also ap­pear on the KRSS web­site.
